Provided is a simple and industrially advantageous method for producing 2,7-octadien-1-ol that recovers the expensive palladium catalyst at high efficiency and improves the reaction rate per palladium atom. Specifically, provided is a method for producing 2,7-octadien-1-ol by a telomerization reaction of butadiene and water in the presence tertiary amine, carbon dioxide, and a palladium catalyst comprising a palladium compound and a water-soluble triarylphosphine having two or more sulfonate groups in the molecule, wherein the method for producing 2,7-octadien-1-ol includes a step for mixing the telomerization reaction solution obtained by a telomerization reaction with an organic solvent having a dielectric constant of 2-18 at 25°C, then conducting phase separation in the presence of carbon dioxide, and obtaining 2,7-octadien-1-ol from the organic phase while recovering an aqueous phase containing the palladium catalyst. This production method improves the selectivity for 2,7-octadien-1-ol. |
