Provided is a direction detection device with enhanced accuracy for true-north detection. In the direction detection device (1), a posture changing device (100) causes an angular velocity sensor (26) to rotate around a detection axis and changes the posture of the angular velocity sensor (26) between a posture in which the detection axis faces in a prescribed measurement direction and a posture in which the detection axis faces in the direction opposite from the prescribed measurement direction. A control device (30) controls the posture changing device (100) so that the angular velocity sensor (26) rotates around the detection axis in a first rotation direction before the angular velocity sensor (26) begins detecting the angular velocity around the prescribed measurement direction. The control device (30) controls the posture changing device (100) so that, before the angular velocity sensor (26) begins detecting the angular velocity around the opposite direction, the angular velocity sensor (26) rotates around the detection axis in a second rotation direction opposite from the first rotation direction and additionally rotates around the detection axis in the first rotation direction. |
