PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an optical film which has special internal structure and can achieve sufficient optical compensation when used in a liquid crystal display; and a method for manufacturing the optical film.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical film is provided which comprises a process of forming melts of a thermoplastic resin- containing composition into films by passing and continuously nip pressing the melts between a first nip pressing face and a second nip pressing face, which compose a nip pressing apparatus. Through the nip pressing apparatus, the pressure pressed on the melts is between 20 to 500 MPa, and the moving speed of the first nip pressing face is faster than that of the second nip pressing face.
