PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a semiconductor light-emitting element having a peak wavelength of red to infrared light and an increased response speed; and an optical coupling device arranged by use thereof.SOLUTION: A semiconductor light-emitting element comprises: a semiconductor substrate; and a semiconductor multilayer body provided on the semiconductor substrate. The semiconductor multilayer body has a light-emitting layer including a quantum well structure including n well layers and (n+1) barrier layers arranged alternately with the well layers (n is an integer equal to or larger than one). The well layers each have a thickness smaller than 15 nm. The barrier layers each have a thickness of 15-50 nm. The light-emitting layer emits light having a peak wavelength of 650-1000 nm. |
