PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger detection system 1 highly efficiently detecting passengers while reducing a load of devices constituting a system and a database capacity.SOLUTION: An information reading device 10 is installed at an entrance of a detection area for acquiring initial feature quantity data acquired from boarding ticket information and an initial appearance image of a passenger. A plurality of passenger detection devices 30 are installed within the detection area. A central processor 100 selects at least one passenger detection device of the plurality of passenger detection devices on the basis of information on transportation means included in the boarding ticket information and transit information of the transportation means acquired from transit database 130. When the feature quantity data extracted from the image-captured person matches the initial feature quantity data, the passenger detection device determines to detect a specific passenger.
