According to the present invention, a coal byproduct is obtained by evaporating away a solvent from a solid concentrate solution using a solvent separator (10) and a dryer (11). The coal byproduct is used as a fuel for a heater (5) to heat a slurry obtained by mixing coal and the solvent. The running cost necessary to produce ashless coal is thereby reduced.
