NOVELPOLYPEPTIDES AND BACTERIOPHAGES SPECIFIC TO KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE CAPSULAR TYPE STRAINS

The present invention relates to novel bacteriophages specific to Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, and compositions comprising the same. Particularly, polypeptides and their coding nucleic acid molecule of the novel bacteriophages are provided. The invention also relates to applications of the novel bacteriophages and the polypeptides in the detection/treatment/prevention of infection caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae strains. Development of immunogen and vaccine on the basis of the polypeptides are also provided.

An isolated polypeptide having degradation activity specific to the capsule of Klebsiella pneumoniae capsular type K1 strains, selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence which has at least 60% sequence identity with the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO: 2; (b) a polypeptide which is encoded by a polynucleotide which hybridizes under at least high stringency conditions with (i) the polypeptide coding sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1, or (ii) a full-length complementary strand of (i); and (c) a polypeptide which is encoded by a polynucleotide having at least 60% sequence identity with the polypeptide coding sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1.
