PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abnormal combustion or occurrence of flame-out in an internal combustion engine of an embodiment in which plasma is produced in a combustion chamber by interaction of electric field radiated into the combustion chamber through an antenna facing the combustion chamber of a cylinder and spark discharge generated between a central electrode of an ignition plug and a ground electrode to ignite an air-fuel mixture.SOLUTION: When a magnitude of reflection wave measured in radiating an electric field into a combustion chamber from an antenna, is smaller than an abnormal combustion determination value, an intensity of the electric field radiated into the combustion chamber in ignition combustion of an air-fuel mixture thereafter is decreased to prevent occurrence of abnormal combustion such as knocking and preignition. Further when the magnitude of the reflection wave is larger than a combustion failure determination value, the electric field radiated into the combustion chamber in ignition combustion of the air-fuel mixture thereafter, is increased to stabilize the combustion and to prevent flame-out. |
