PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a corresponding monool or a corresponding diol selectively in a high yield by converting the hydroxyl group of a raw material diol or a raw material triol to a hydrogen atom, respectively, efficiently under mild conditions.SOLUTION: A method of producing a monool or a diol comprises converting the hydroxyl group of a raw material diol or a raw material triol, excluding glycerol, to a hydrogen atom in the presence of a catalyst and hydrogen to obtain a corresponding monool or a corresponding diol, respectively, and the catalyst consists of a platinum ingredient supported by tungsten trioxide as a support. |
