An average number of credits for a period is determined. The cable length between the transmitter and the receiver is determined based on the average number of credits for the period. |

determining a number of available credits at a transmitter, the credits being received at the transmitter from a receiver, the transmitter and receiver being communicatively coupled by a cable, and each of the credits being used by the transmitter to transmit a packet to the receiver; determining an average number of credits for a period based on credits received at the transmitter; and determining, by a processing device, a cable length of the cable between the transmitter and the receiver based on the average number of credits for the period. |
