[Class 37] [Also in Group XL] A stratified electrode system, as for a dry rectifier or photo-electric cell, is built up on a carrier plate by applying a layer in a form in which it can be distributed over the plate by rapid movement such as agitation or rotation. The layer of the desired material may be applied in two stages. In an example, a suspension of carbon in water is applied to an aluminium disc and rotated, and the layer dried by continued rotation or by heat. A second layer of carbon may be superimposed. Selenium in just sufficient quantity is then applied and heated to about 300‹C. and distributed by rotation, and, after lowering the temperature to about 150‹C., a second layer may be added. Crystallization of the selenium may be accelerated by raising the temperature by 15-25‹C. A blocking layer and a further conductive layer may be added in a similar manner.</p> |
