The present invention relates to a liquid crystal aligning agent containing polyamic acid gained by reacting tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula (1) or a mixture of tetracarboxylic dianhydride containing at least one of tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by formula (1) with diamine, or a polyamic acid derivative. A liquid crystal alignment film formed by using the liquid crystal aligning agent has high hardness of the film and also excellent orientation of liquid crystal molecules. In addition, a liquid crystal display device having excellent afterimage properties can be provided by using the liquid crystal alignment film. R is alkylene of 1-10 carbon atoms. |
