A baggage tractor 10 for the transport of cargo to and from an aircraft comprising a cabin 24 mounted onto a wheeled chassis 12. The cabin includes at least one planar door 82, a drive motor 20 providing motive force and an electrical energy storage device 34 for providing electrical energy to the drive motor. The baggage tractor also comprises A baggage trailer engagement means 28 for releasably engaging a baggage trailer and an irregular trajectory means for directing the door along an irregular trajectory in a primary plane of the door. A height to which the door rises between open and closed conditions is limited to prevent aircraft collision. The baggage tractor may additionally or alternatively comprise a braking means 46 including an electro-hydraulic brake control mechanism 54 and a fail-safe brake control mechanism 56, the fail-safe brake control mechanism being manually and hydraulically disengagable. The baggage tractor may further include a compartment 36 on the wheeled chassis having a lockable access cover 38 to prevent unauthorised access to a plurality of electrical connectors 44 contained therein. |
