Dual pointer display

A pointer display 1 has first pointer element 2 and second pointer element 4. Each pointer element is rotatable about its own axis and these axes are coincident with each other along common axis 6. First pointer element comprises first pointer arm 8 and first stem or shaft 10; the second pointer element comprises second pointer arm 12 and second stem or shaft 14. A first drive 18 comprising a motor 20 and gear train 22 rotates the first pointer element, whilst second drive 30 comprising a motor 32 rotates the second pointer element. The gear train comprises input gear 24 and output gear 26 (in figures 2 and 3) and the output gear is supported by a bearing on the second shaft. An optical system illuminates the pointer arms; the system comprises a light source 60, a light pipe 62 and a light splitter 64 for directing some of the light from the light pipe laterally into both pointer arms.
