529,190. Glasswool. ALGEMEENE KUNSTVEZEL MAATSCHAPPIJ N. V. May 24, 1939, No. 15402. Convention date, May 24, 1938. [Class 56] Relates to the production of fine fibres, particularly glass wool, by subjecting thin streams of molten material to the drawing action of jets of air or steam issuing at high velocity from a blower, as described in Specification 428,720. According to the invention, the passage 15, by which the molten glass flows through the blower, is extended by angle pieces 17, 18 secured to the blower structure, the ends of the space so defined being closed by channel member 19. The jets of air or steam from nozzles 16, and air aspirated around the bushing 20 from which the glass flows, are closely confined in the extended passage 15, and the drawing-effect exerted on the stream of glass is increased. In a modified construction, a single stream of glass flows through a circular blower with a central opening fitted with a tubular extension. |
