Provided is an automatic transmission for a vehicle having a simple device configuration. A multistage-type automatic transmission (10, 70) for a vehicle provided with a plurality of engaging elements of which the engagement state is changed by hydraulic pressure, namely a first clutch (C1), a second clutch (C2), a first brake (B1), a second brake (B2), and a third brake (B3), in which a plurality of gear stages are selectively established on the basis of the combination of the plurality of engaging elements from engagement to release in accordance with the hydraulic pressure supplied from a hydraulic pressure circuit (60), wherein configurational constraints on the hydraulic pressure circuit (60) are eased and the oil pump may be reduced in size as a result of at least one of the engaging elements from among the plurality of engaging elements being a normally closed engaging element which is made to engage when hydraulic pressure is not supplied from the hydraulic pressure circuit (60). |
