The method involves feeding a base signal which is used with a minimum pulse interval for the generation of pulses, particularly spikes or bursts during the occurrence of pre-defined signal conditions for the base signals, particularly during rising or falling edges of a digital bit-stream. The pulse interval amounts the maximum run-time to be detected, particularly the twice of the run-time to be detected. A signal affiliated with pulses is generated from the base signals.
