The heating apparatus 120 has a tank 132, a heat exchanger 170 located in the tank and a burner device having a burner head (192, figure 7). The tank has a tank inlet 134 and outlet 136 and a heat exchanger inlet 173 and outlet 175. The heat exchanger comprises a hollow body (176, figure 9A) having a mouth 172 coupled to the exchanger inlet and a flue outlet (174, figure 4A) coupled to the exchanger outlet. The burner head is at least partially located in the mouth inside the hollow body. Ideally the apparatus heats water in the tank by passing heated combustion products of the burner head through the hollow body. Preferably the tank inlet and outlet and exchanger inlet and outlet are all located on a common end face of the tank and a housing (156, figure 4B) is provided to facilitate the provision of thermal insulation around the tank. The housing may include mounting fixtures (158, figure 4B) to fix the heater to a chassis (14, figure 1) and/or floor (16, figure 1) of a recreational vehicle (12, figure 1), caravan or portable or temporary structure. |
