Optimized video streaming to client devices

There is provided a system and method for determining an optimal bandwidth for a communication between a networked client device and a server. There is provided a method comprising identifying the networked client device, identifying a location of the networked client device, obtaining a client device profile for the networked client device corresponding to the location, and determining the optimal bandwidth using the client device profile. In this manner, client devices may almost instantly stream the highest quality video available.

1. A system for determining an optimal bandwidth for a communication between a mobile client device and a server, the system comprising:
a centralized routing module accessible by the server, the centralized routing module having a processor configured to:
identify the mobile client device;identify a physical location of the mobile client device; retrieve a client device profile for the mobile client device corresponding to the physical location; determine the optimal bandwidth using a user input, the client device profile and an expected available bandwidth, wherein the expected available bandwidth is determined by a comparison of previous connections at the physical location of the mobile client device; and update the client device profile with data corresponding to the optimal bandwidth.
