A manual control arrangement (2) for use in a hoist system (1), comprising: a manual control unit having a housing, a grip (47) formed by a first part (48) projecting from the housing of the manual control unit, the first part having a largely T-shaped cross-section with branches (51) having grip surfaces (49) that extend transversely to a stem (50) of the T and configured for disposition between two fingers when a user uses the grip (47), and a second part projecting from the housing of the manual control unit and configured for communicating being electrically connected, in use with a control unit in the hoist system, the first part being connected to the housing by the stem of the T leaving the branches free of a direct connect to the housing and the second part, wherein the T has grip surfaces (49) which curve from the stem to the branches on opposite sides of the T for use of the grip surfaces to prevent the control unit from leaving the hand of the user when the user opens the hand holding the housing, and wherein the control unit has controls on an opposite side of the housing from the T at a position enabling operation thereof when the housing is gripped by the hand of the user.
