1. A method of producing an alkane or alkene from an engineered microorganism, the method comprising,
(a) expressing a first nucleotide sequence encoding an acyl-ACP reductase polypeptide that catalyzes the conversion of acyl ACP to a fatty aldehyde in said engineered microorganism, wherein the acyl-ACP reductase polypeptide encoded by the first nucleotide sequence has at least 90% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 72; (b) expressing a second nucleotide sequence encoding a decarbonylase polypeptide that catalyzes the conversion of a fatty aldehyde to an alkane or alkene in said engineered microorganism, wherein the decarbonylase polypeptide encoded by the second nucleotide sequence has at least 90% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:20, each of said first and second nucleotide sequences is operably linked to a promoter; and (c) culturing the engineered microorganism in a culture media containing a carbohydrate carbon source under conditions effective to produce an alkane or alkene in the extracellular environment of the microorganism culture. |
