PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing reduced iron which can melt rapidly byproduct slag of reduction of iron oxide even when an iron ore containing AlOis used and heated at e.g. 1,500°C or lower and reduce the reaction time of reduction of iron oxide.SOLUTION: A method of producing reduced iron by heating lumps composed of an iron ore containing AlOand a carbonaceous reductant to reduce iron oxide in the lumps uses an iron ore of a Blaine index(BI) of 2,000-3,000 cm/g, and the alkalinity (CaO/SiO) determined from the contents of CaO and SiOin the lumps is adjusted to 0.9-1.2 by adding CaCOto the mixture. With the total amount of CaO, SiOand AlOcontained in the lumps converted as 100 mass%, the amount of AlOis 20 mass% or lower and higher than 0%. |
