Code acquisition means 4a of a data decompression device 4 acquires a code from compressed data 3a in order beginning with the top of the compressed data. When the code of the second symbol string 1b is acquired, decompression means 4b of the data decompression device 4 acquires, from storage means 5 and on the basis of information for specifying a block to which belongs a leading symbol of the first symbol string 1a, one or more blocks following a block to which belongs the leading symbol of the decompressed first symbol string 1a, and thereby restores the second symbol string 1b.
