PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic cash transaction device and a method in which denomination can be exchanged at the time of disbursement, and that allow a total disbursement amount to be easily exchanged into thousand yen notes in order to be disbursed.SOLUTION: An exchange instruction section 101 makes a user, after instructing a disbursement amount, input an exchange instruction for disbursing to the user thousand yen notes of a maximum number for the disbursement amount instructed by the user. In accordance with the exchange instruction, a section 102 for calculating a disbursement number per denomination calculates a disbursement number for a ten-thousand yen note and a thousand yen note respectively after the exchange, so that a total disbursement amount of the ten-thousand yen notes and the thousand yen notes after the exchange does not exceed the disbursement amount instructed by the user, and a total disbursement number of the ten-thousand yen note and the thousand yen note after the exchange does not exceed a total number that is disbursable at a time, and so that a disbursement number of the thousand yen note is maximized within a range that does not exceed the disbursement amount instructed by the user. An exchange confirmation section 103 displays the disbursement number of the ten-thousand yen note and the thousand yen note respectively after the exchange and the total disbursement amount to the user, and makes the user confirm the exchange and instruct the disbursement. When the user has confirmed the exchange and instructed the disbursement, a disbursement execution section 104 disburses the ten-thousand yen notes and the thousand yen notes only in a respective disbursement number of the ten-thousand yen note and the thousand yen note after the exchange calculated by the section 102 for calculating the disbursement number per denomination.
