PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel reformer capable of curbing both progress of caulking in a reforming catalyst and degradation of fuel.SOLUTION: A fuel reformer 3 comprises: a reformer body 31 which is installed on an EGR pipe 21 returning a portion of exhaust from an engine of a vehicle V to intake air of the engine 1 and generates hydrogen by reforming fuel; a battery 33 which applies voltage to a reforming catalyst in the reformer body 31; a reformed fuel injector 32 which supplies the reformer body 31 with the fuel; and a reformer ECU 35 which controls an amount of the hydrogen generated by the reforming catalyst. The reformer ECU 35 switches, in accordance with a battery SOC, between a fuel restriction mode where a hydrogen generation amount is controlled by changing a fuel amount supplied to the reforming catalyst while keeping power supply input thereto at a predetermined permissible maximum value and a power restriction mode where the hydrogen generation amount is controlled by changing both the power supply input to the reforming catalyst and the fuel amount supplied thereto. |
