PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to separate a recording sheet from an image carrier with improved separability when the image forming apparatus is left in a high-humidity environment for a long time, and to provide a control method thereof.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a rotatable photoreceptor drum (image carrier) which carries a toner image; a transfer belt for forming a transfer nip part with a photoreceptor drum; a voltage application unit which applies a voltage to the transfer belt so that a constant current flows in the transfer belt; and a control unit which sets a current flowing in the transfer belt as a tip current when a voltage having a polarity opposite transfer polarity and an absolute value equal to or higher than a surface potential value of the photoreceptor drum is applied by the voltage application unit to the transfer belt, and controls the voltage application unit so that the tip current flows in the transfer belt when a tip (non-image area) in a conveyance direction of a recording sheet passes through the transfer nip part. |
