PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element, a solid state imaging device, a portable information terminal, and a display device that are provided with a function capable of changing over between an imaging mode capable of obtaining a dimension in a depth direction of a subject and an imaging mode of capturing a high resolution two-dimensional image.SOLUTION: A solid state imaging device according to a present embodiment comprises: a liquid crystal optical element including a first electrode having a first concavity part provided on a first plane and a protrusion part provided in a periphery of the first concavity part, a second electrode facing the first plane of the first electrode, a filling film provided between the first cavity part of the first electrode and the second electrode, and a liquid crystal layer held between the filling film and the second electrode; an image formation lens that faces the second electrode, and forms an image of a subject on an image forming plane; and an imaging element that has a pixel block including a plurality of pixels, facing the first concavity part. |
