PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which suppresses decrease of the structural strength even with an increasing opening ratio and shape changes of cells.SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure 50 has a honeycomb structure part 10, and the honeycomb structure part 10 is composed of a first inner area 13 and a second outer area 15 surrounding the first area 13. The opening ratio of the first area 13 is 83% or higher, and the porosity of the partition wall 9 is 20-60%. The thickness tof a partition wall 9 constituting the first area 13 is 0.11 mm or smaller, and the thickness tof a partition wall 9 constituting the second area 15 is greater than the thickness tof the partition wall 9. In the second area, the ratio t/tof the thickness tof the partition wall 9 forming the complete cell directed from the outermost periphery toward the center in the honeycomb structure to the thickness tof the partition wall 9 is 1.2-1.4, and the partition wall strength index A is 4.0 or greater. |
