Offset nail and method of making an offset nail

A nail (500) having an offset head (512) is configured with a multi-step support gusset (532, 534) formed integrally between an under surface of the offset head (512) and a superior portion of a shank (514). A first portion of gusset (532) circumferentially surrounds the shank (514) at a bottom edge (520) and extends radially outward from the shank. A method and apparatus for making such a nail includes positioning a wire in a die conforming to the shape of the nail, pre-bending the wire and using a pressure roller to form the gusset and head.
