[Class 40 (iii)] In a type-printing receiver of the kind described in Specification 436,296, in which a typewheel is positioned in accordance with the aggregated motions of a set of sun-andplanet gears, each planet gear 21 is positioned by a connecting-rod 19 whose end 22 is carried by a disc or the like 8 which performs half a revolution at each change in the polarity of the corresponding signal impulses. One or other of the arms 11 a, 12a is depressed in response to each impulse, according to the polarity of the latter. If, in the condition shown, the arm 11a is depressed, the pawl 9 is tripped by the movement of the lever 11b and acts to clutch the disc 8 to the continuously rotating ratchet wheel 24. The disc 8 thereupon performs half a revolution, until the pawl 9 becomes disengaged by the action of the lever 12b. The disc 8 is coupled by a rod 19 to a frame 3 bearing the planet wheel 21, which is thus caused to move around the sunwheel 4. The sunwheel 4 is integral with an inwardly toothed segment 2, .and the planet wheel 21 meshes with the sunwheel and with a further inwardly toothed segment (not shown) similar to the segment 2. There are five discs 8 with their associated parts, and there is a sun-andplanet mechanism associated with each disc, so that the movements are aggregated for the purposes of positioning the type-wheel shaft. |
