The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for unifying messages in a portable terminal, which facilitate information retrieval and transmission and reception of information through a user interface (UI) that support a variety of information based on various services, which is transmitted to and received from a specific user, to be displayed on one screen and can unify services of the transmission and reception of information. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: collecting, in the portable terminal, messages transmitted and received through each of communication channels linked with the portable terminal by a plug-in; displaying the transmitted and received messages collected during the collecting step and icons of the communication channels, which are used for the messages by subscribers, respectively, on the portable terminal; recognizing a state of the other user when a message is transmitted and suggesting a communication channel according to the state of the other user; and transmitting the message through the suggested communication channel. |
