A backlight module and a liquid crystal display device. The backlight module includes a back plate (1), a light guide plate (4) and an optical film (5). The light guide plate (4) and the optical film (5) are arranged on the back plate (1). The plate edge of the optical film (5) is isolated from the plate edge of the light guide plate (4). The backlight module also comprises a limiting unit arranged on the light guide plate (4). The orthogonal projection of the limiting unit on the optical film (5) overlaps partially with the optical film (5). A set distance between the backlight module and a liquid crystal panel (6) arranged thereon is maintained by the limiting unit.
