1. A clamshell container comprising:
a base having a bottom wall having an upwardly extending side wall having an upwardly extending sealing segment from which an outwardly extending flange extends, wherein an internal cavity is defined above the bottom wall and within the side wall; a lid having a top wall and a perimeter projecting member, which extends away from the top wall; a hinge integrally formed with the lid and connecting the lid to the base, such that the lid is pivotable between an open configuration in which the internal cavity is accessible, and a closed configuration in which the lid perimeter projecting member engages the base and closes the container to restrict access to the internal cavity; portions of the lid perimeter projecting member defining an internal wall facing inwardly, and an external wall which faces outwardly, the external wall engaging the base sealing segment in the closed configuration; and portions of the base side wall which define at least one internal post extending away from the bottom wall, the post extending along the side wall less than the length of the entire side wall, and the post having an engaging wall which faces towards the sealing wall and which is spaced from the sealing wall to define a gap, wherein in the closed configuration portions of the lid projecting member extend into the gap, such that distortion of the container in the closed configuration which tends to urge the lid projecting member away from the base sealing wall is resisted when the lid projecting member internal wall engages the post engaging wall. |
