This hydrogen generation apparatus is provided with: a reformer (9); a raw material feeder (2) for feeding a raw material to the reformer (9); a combustor (10) for heating the reformer (9); an air feeder (13) for feeding air to the combustor (10); a hydro-desulfurizer (3) for removing sulfur compounds from the raw material through hydrogenation; a heater for heating the hydro-desulfurizer (3); a desulfurization temperature detector for detecting the temperature of the hydro-desulfurizer (3); a cooling channel (24) through which at least a part of the air that is to be fed from the air feeder (13) to the combustor (10) passes and which cools the hydro-desulfurizer (3); and a controller (29). When the temperature detected by the desulfurization temperature detector exceeds a first temperature threshold set previously, the controller (29) adjusts the flow rate of air fed to the cooling channel (24) to a level higher than the level set when the temperature detected thereby is not higher than the first temperature threshold. |
