PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics, running durability and running stability.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium has, on a nonmagnetism support medium, a magnetic layer including a ferromagnetic powder and a binder. The ferromagnetic powder is a ferromagnetic hexagonal ferrite powder containing Al of 3-12 mass% based on a total amount of 100 mass% in terms of AlO. The magnetic layer further contains abrasive, and a plan-view maximum area of the abrasive recognised in an area of 4.3 μm×6.3 μm square of the magnetic layer by a scanning electron microscope is less than 0.06% for a total area of 100%. |
