A dielectric wave guide (DWG) has a first dielectric constant core, lower second dielectric constant cladding surrounding the core and a conductive layer on an outer radius of a corner portion. A DWG cable has conductive elements surrounded by a first dielectric constant sheath, a higher second dielectric constant core contacting the sheath outer surface, and lower third dielectric constant cladding surrounding the sheath. A multichannel DWG has rectangular first dielectric constant cores surrounded by lower second dielectric constant cladding. A system has an electronic device with multilayer substrate surface for interface with a DWG end, a conductive layer etched to form dipole antenna, and a reflector adjacent the dipole antenna, and director elements embedded in the DWG end. A metallic waveguide mounted on a multilayer substrate has an open end formed to receive a core of a dielectric waveguide, and an opposite tapered end formed by declining the top of the metallic waveguide past the bottom of the metallic waveguide and down to contact the multilayer substrate. A tapered end pinnacle is coupled to the ground plane element, and the waveguide bottom contacts the multiplayer substrate and is coupled to the microstrip line. |
