This Francis-type runner (R) for a hydraulic machine comprises a runner crown (2) and a runner skirt (1) with symmetry of revolution about an axis (X2) of rotation of the runner (R) and blades (12). Each blade (12) extends between a first edge (13) and a second edge (14). The ratio between, on the one hand, the radius (R1) of a circle centred on axis (X2) of rotation of the runner (R) at right angles to this axis and passing through a point (C) of attachment of the first edge (13) of the blade (12) to the runner crown (2) and, on the other hand, the radius (R2) of a circle centred on the axis (X2) of rotation of the runner (R) at right angles to this axis and passing through a point of attachment (A) of the first edge (13) of the same blade (12) to the runner skirt (1) is strictly greater than 1 and less than or equal to 1.1.
