PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate detection device capable of determining the concentration of saccharide including glucose or each type of substrate, and easily and inexpensively manufacturing a circuit configuration, and a biofuel battery with a substrate detecting function having a function for determining the concentration of the substrate contained in the fuel of the biofuel battery.SOLUTION: The substrate detection device includes: a sensor strip 15 for extracting electrons by oxidizing a substrate as a specimen; a capacitor 14 serially connected to the sensor strip 15; and a circuit for measuring the inter-terminal voltage of the capacitor 14, and the concentration of the substrate is determined in accordance with the inter-terminal voltage of the capacitor 14. The substrate detection device includes: a power source 11; a constant voltage generation circuit 12 to which a voltage is supplied from the power source 11; a circuit 13 for sensor strip constant voltage application for applying a constant voltage to be generated by the constant voltage generation circuit 12 to the sensor strip 15; and at least one comparator circuit 16 to which the inter-terminal voltage of the capacitor 14 is input.
