PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unfailingly inhibit a bearing pad from being deformed by heat and pressure.SOLUTION: A bearing pad 24 includes: a bearing pad body 24 having a pad surface 24p which supports a rotation shaft; an expansion cylinder 51 which is provided along an end surface 24a intersecting with an outer edge of the pad surface 24p of the bearing pad body 24, expands and contracts in a direction along the pad surface 24p, and fixes both end parts 51p, 51q to the end surface 24a; a strain gauge 50 which detects strain on the end surface 24a; and a controller 53 which expands the expansion cylinder 51 according to the strain detected by the strain gauge.
