PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is capable of effectively eliminating separation failures such as the winding of a recording medium when a fixing belt is reversely rotated for jam processing, according to conditions such as the thickness, size, and image area of the recording medium.SOLUTION: A fixing device includes an endless fixing member 101 including a heat source 105 inside and freely rotatably supported, a pressure roller 150 coming into contact with the fixing member 101, to form a nip part N, a driving source 155 rotating the fixing member 101 normally and reversely, separation means 154 for preventing a recording medium P from being wound on the fixing member 101, when the fixing member 101 is rotated reversely, and control means 160 for controlling the driving source 155. The control means 160 performs control for changing the pattern of an operation during the reverse rotation, according to a difference in the kind and state of the recording medium P. |
