<p>A refrigerator (10) is provided including a refrigerator compartment (12) having a bin door (20). A storage bin (18) is positioned within the refrigerator compartment (12). A lift mechanism (32) is positioned within the refrigerator compartment (12). The lift mechanism (32) includes a lifting device (36) that supports the storage bin (18). The lifting mechanism (32) further includes a gear system (63) that assists in raising and lowering the storage bin (18). The gear system (63) includes a motor (42) and one or more gears (44, 45). The motor (42) rotates the one or more gears (44, 45), causing the one or more gears (44, 45) to apply a vertical force to the storage bin (18).
