PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly convert the rate of dot formation of dot data already having been subjected to halftone processing by processing the dot data.SOLUTION: Halftone processing is performed again using an error diffusion method such that when image data representing an image is converted with input data which is halftone-processed data having been subjected to halftone processing so that the rate of dot formation corresponding to gradation values of the image is a first dot generation rate, a second dot generation rate different from the first dot generation rate is obtained. In this case, the generation rate of dots is suitably controlled by setting a first gradation value corresponding to "ON" dots of the halftone-processed data and a second gradation value corresponding to "ON" dots obtained by the re-halftone processing using the error diffusion method to different values.
