An engine ECU informs a failure of the cooling device with a display unit when a cooling efficiency for cooling the recirculated gas, determined on the basis of a state value of the recirculated gas, becomes lower than a first determination value. The engine ECU additionally controls an opening degree of the recirculation valve such that an amount of the recirculated gas is reduced when the cooling efficiency for cooling the recirculated gas, determined on the basis of the state value of the recirculated gas, becomes lower than a second determination value lower than the first determination value.
