A periphery monitoring device (100A) is provided with: a person's presence determination means (12) for determining whether a person is present in each of a plurality of monitored spaces in a periphery of a shovel (60); and a warning control means (13) for controlling a plurality of warning output units (7) which are disposed inside a cab (64) of the shovel (60), and which output warnings to an operator. The warning control means (13) causes a warning to be outputted from a right-side warning output unit (7R) in cases when it is determined that a person is present in a right-side monitored space (ZR), causes a warning to be outputted from a left-side warning output unit (7L) in cases when it is determined that a person is present in a left-side monitored space (ZL), and causes a warning to be outputted from a rear warning output unit (7B) in cases when it is determined that a person is present in a rear monitored space (ZB).
