PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric wire and a cable which use a resin composition, excellent in water resistance even when a metal hydroxide is added in the same amount as before, for an insulator and a sheath of a conductor.SOLUTION: In an electric wire, the outer periphery of a conductor is covered with a flame-retardant resin composition. The flame-retardant resin composition is obtained by surface-treating particles of a metal hydroxide comprising at least one of magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, and calcium hydroxide with a fatty acid-based material and adding the surface-treated particles to a polyolefin resin. The polyolefin resin contains an ethylene-ethylacrylate copolymer as a main component. The fatty acid-based material comprises a fatty acid metal salt. The metal hydroxide of 150 pts.mass or more and 300 pts.mass or less is added to 100 pts.mass of the polyolefin resin. The average particle diameter of the metal hydroxide is 1 μm or less. The fatty acid metal salt is added to the metal hydroxide in a range of 0.3 mass% or more and 1.5 mass% or less so that the surfaces of the particles of the metal hydroxide are partially exposed. |
