[Problem] To provide an R-T-B permanent magnet that has high bond strength even while having equivalent magnetic properties to conventional Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets and that is favorable as the field magnet of a permanent magnet synchronized rotary machine. [Solution] In the case that the composition of the compound forming the primary phase is (R1-x(Ce1-zYz)x)2T14B (where R is a rare earth element comprising at least one of La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu; T is at last one transition metal element requiring Fe or Fe and Co; 0.0 < x ≤ 0.5; and 0.0 ≤ z ≤ 0.5), the ratio of the presence of Ce4f, which is Ce occupying 4f sites in a tetragonal R2T14B structure, and Ce4g, which is Ce occupying 4g sites, is such that 0.8 ≤ Ce4f/(Ce4f+Ce4g) ≤ 1.0, and thus a permanent magnet that has high bond strength even while having equivalent magnetic properties to conventional Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets is obtained. |
