Disclosed in an embodiment of the present invention are a thumbnail generating method and system, the method comprising: obtaining the sizes of an original picture and a target thumbnail; calculating the product of a preset coefficient and the size of the target thumbnail to obtain a thumbnail size corresponding to the original picture, the preset coefficient being greater than 1; zooming out the original picture according to the thumbnail size corresponding to the original picture to obtain an intermediate result picture; determining a weight value distribution map of the pixels in the intermediate result picture; and clipping the intermediate result picture according to the weight value distribution map of the pixels and the size of the target thumbnail so as to obtain a thumbnail comprising an area of interest to human eyes. The embodiment of the present invention ensures that an area of interest to human eyes in a picture is retained in a thumbnail, thus improving thumbnail effect. |
