An automated cleaning brush 1, which is designed to operate in a reciprocating motion, comprises a shaft 6 and a brush head 2 which supports a plurality of bristles 3. A driving mechanism, such as a piston driving mechanism, can be linked to the brush head 2 through the shaft 6. The brush head 2 could be electrically driven. The brush head 2 is arranged to reciprocate along a linear path which is substantially parallel to the axis of the shaft. The gouging or stabbing action of the brush directs energy toward the contaminant 5 on the object or part to be cleaned. At least a portion of the bristles, which could be formed from synthetic or natural materials, extend in the direction of the linear path. The bristle portion of the brush could have different shaped ends, including curved (figure 3) or angled (figures 4 and 5). |
