Disclosed are a communication terminal and a handover method used in the terminal to conduct handover between heterogeneous networks. The handover method according to an embodiment of the present invention, which is used between heterogeneous networks, hands over the terminal which conducts communication with another terminal through an access channel generated via a first communication network to a second communication network. The handover method includes the steps of: bypassing the communication with the other terminal to a relay server from the terminal; updating the access channel using the second communication network in the terminal; and resuming the communication with the other terminal by using the access channel updated in the terminal.
