Use of indole and/or indoline derivative(s) (I) for increasing the leveling power of colorants for keratin fibers, which contain developer component(s) and optionally coupler component(s), comprises applying (I) to the fibers together with the usual dye precursors. An Independent claim is also included for oxidative colorants for keratin fibers, especially human hair, containing pyrazole derivative(s) and compound(s) selected from 5,6-dihydroxyindoline, 5,6-dihydroxyindole and their physiologically compatible salts.
